The Summer months are favorable for one of the most ancient traditional fishing methods that can be held on the shores of the district, the Xávega method. This type of fishing method allows for an ancient custom to still be carried on our days: the fishermen accept all the help they can get to pull the nets to shore and as a reward they offer a share of the capture fish.

Back in 2007, over one hundred divers decided to kick off the New Year at the bottom of the ocean. Exactly at midnight, they switched on their flashlights to create an outline of the number 2008 in the middle of the Bay of Sesimbra. Since then, the Underwater New Year’s Eve has become one of the town’s hallmarks.
The 12th Sesimbra Book Fair runs from 17 July to 23 August, from noon to midnight, at Praça da Califórnia. Readers of all ages will find something engaging here. Besides a huge range of publications at attractive prices, the fair also includes meetings with writers, autograph sessions and children’s entertainment.
Ribeiro do Cavalo beach in Sesimbra is featured on the front cover of this week’s environmental issue of the magazine Visão, which lists it as one of the 25 most beautiful beaches in Portugal. The article also includes Praia da Foz, between Cape Espichel and Meco, on the same list. Continue reading
